Ardbeg Embassy

Ardbeg Embassy is a small and really cosy restaurant in the center of the Old Town of Stockholm. It is known for its large selection of whisky, but the food is worth the visit too. Trust me! I had porks leg marinated in beer with cabbage - and it was gooood I tell ya!

Furesø Fribad

Churrasco! That's what you call this Brasilian style BBQ. Sounds good - tastes even greater. I have only come across this type of meat extravaganza once before at the American based restaurants Fogo de Chao.
I never dreamed, I would find a similar place in Denmark.

Furesø Fribad is located on a beautiful lakeside, where in stead of grass you find sand. It looks and feels like a real beach. The food consists of differend cuts of beef, pork, chicken and fish - all grilled to perfection on the huge BBQ. Next to the grill is a large table with all kinds of delicious salads, beans, vegetables and more. It's amazing!

Price: 225 Dkr per adult.

NOTE! The BBQ is only open during the summer, so check the website for details, before you go.

Huks Fluks

Huks Fluks is located in one of Copenhagens cutest squares, Gråbrødre Torv. They serve a variety of nordic tapas, sandwiches, salads etc. Their focus is on time... Huks Fluks is primarily a lunch restaurant for business people, who have 30 minutes lunch brakes from work. Because of this you can see the estimated time it takes to prepare each meal in the menu. In the summer time you can sit outside in the square.

Custom House

Custom House in Copenhagen consists of four different restaurants. I went to "Bar & Grill" the other day and I'm definitely going back there soon!

I usualy go for the Rib Eye steak, when I dine at a grill house, but this time I decided to try something else. I ordered the Grambogaard Pig, which is a piece of organic pigs rib with lots of seasoning, slowly grilled over several hours until the meat almost falls of the bones.
The taste was amazing, and as with all the dishes at Custom House Bar & Grill - you decide wich side orders to get with your main course. I chose the home made fries. They were a dissapointment to say the least! Look and feel: McDonald style fries :-( I also ordered the regular potatoes and a vinagrette style sauce - both were really good.
My boyfriend got the Rib Eye steak. It was perfect of course ;-)

Peter Beier Chocolate

Want chocolate? - Then you gotta try the chocolate fondue at Peter Beier Chocolate in Copenhagen. It's simply to die for!

Peter Beier has a few different chocolate shops in Copenhagen, but my favorite is on Gl. Kongevej. Here you can get the most delicious chocolate fondue with both dark, milk and white chocolate of the absolute finest quality.
You get at plate full of warm chocolate and a plate full of whatever fruit is in season, and all you do now is dip & eat ;-)
The regular chocolate fondue is big enough for two not so craving people. The price is 99 kr.

La Galette

La Galette is a little French place in Copenhagen, located in a small alleyway on Larsbjørnsstræde 9. You have to know this place, in order to find it! However it does have a fairly huge sign out front; A cardboard figure of Obelix from the Asterix stories.

La Galette only serves crepes. They have a large selection of crepes with everything from salmon to steak, and they are all really good. My favorite is the salmon. They also have dessert crepes with chocolate, bananas, coconut etc. etc.
Prices vary from 35 kr. for a crepe with just butter on it to 110 kr. for the salmon crepes.

The Hummingbird Bakery

The Hummingbird Bakery is located at 133 Portobello Road. I had already planed a visit to the bakery from home, since I am the lucky owner of "The Hummingbird Bakery cookbook". The bakery is filled with scrumptious cupcakes, cakes and cookies - enough to make your mouth water and your brain hurt from trying to make a choice. We couldn't, so we ended up ordering tree cupcakes, a rasberry cheesecake brownie, a cafe Latte and a hot chocolate.

We ate the chocolate vermicelli cupcake and the rasberry cheesecake brownie on the steps of a house close to Portobello Road. The other two cupcakes, another chocolate one and a red velvet cupcake survived until we were seated on the Stansted Express going to the airport the next day.

The cupcakes are about 2,50 - 3,5 £ each depending on the filling and decoration. The cheesecake brownie was about 3 £ and boy were they worth it ;-)

Bea's at Bloomsbury

Ahhh... Afternoon Tea at Bea's of Bloomsbury. One of the most delicious teas I've had in a long time. Bea's is located at 44 Theobald Road in Bloomsbury, London. It's a bit hard to find as the facade of the building is white and the sign in the window very hard to see when driving by in a taxi.

Anyways - Bea knows how to make delicious cupcakes, macaroons, brownies and blondies (white brownies), scones and tea. We had to take one of the cupcakes + some brownies to go. There was simply too much sugar for two people to consume in one sitting.

The afternoon tea at Bea's is 12 £ each.

The Red Lion

If you want real no nonsense fish & chips, you should try The Red Lion at 48 Parliament Street. The pub is located near the bridge, that takes you across The Thames to London Eye. Mia and I both got the fish & chips. Only difference was that I got mushy peas, Mia got regular ones ;-) The fish was nice and jucy on the inside and crispy on the outside - just as it should be. The tartare sauce was really good and the mushy peas....will never be my favorite, but now I have tried them ;-)
The price: 9.95 £ each

Marsala Zone

Masala Zone is an Indian chain of restaurants, you will find all over London. If you want to taste a bit of everything, go for the Thali, which is similar to a tasting platter. You can choose from mild to very hot dishes to go with your Thali.
We chose a lamb spinach and a chicken tikka dish with our Grand Thali. It all tasted very nice, and the Nimbu Pani (Indian lemonade) I had with the Thali, is one of the best I've ever had. It's made with lemons, water and a dash of salt. It tastes a bit like a still margarita with the salt in the glas in stead of on the rim, if that makes any sense?

Frederiksberg Chokolade - The Ice Cream

Frederiksberg Chokolade, Isen (Frederiksberg Chocolate, The Ice cream) is located at Frederiksberg Allé 64. It is my all time favorite ice cream place in Copenhagen, because everything here is home made.

The waffles are dipped in chocolate, the ice cream made with home made chocolate from Frederiksberg Chocolate and fresh strawberrys, mangos, elderflower etc. On top you can get several different versions of foam, which is made from wipped sugar, egg whites and coffee, berries or chocolate.

The price for the ice cream I'm about to sink my teeth into here is about Dkr. 30,- Not much considering the amount of calories you get ;-)

Restaurant Sophienholm

Restaurant Sophienholm is nested in a beautiful garden overlooking lake Furesøen just north of Copenhagen. The restaurant serves really excellent food at affordable prices, but really you want to come here for the whole experience of lunch in the garden overlooking the lake followed by a ride in the famous boats "Baadfarten". Baadfarten will take you from Sophienholm to Lyngby, where you can catch a train back to Copenhagen.

Why are we here?

I'm going to London in a few days, and it occurred to me that it's pretty hard to find decent reviews of restaurants online. Don't get me wrong, I know there are millions of them out there, but I'm missing the detailed ones - the ones that notice the odd thing about a certain restaurant, or the ones that tell you why this particular restaurant is an absolute must if you're ever in the neighborhood.
On that note I have decided to start writing my own reviews of restaurants, cafes, coffee shops, tea houses, burger joints etc. both in Copenhagen where I live and in cities I visit, starting with my trip to London in a few days.

Stay tuned to find the best places in town...
